The Fallshore City Gym is the 4th Gym you encounter in Pokémon Unbound. The Gym Leader Mel specializes in Normal-type Pokémon, but the gym’s mechanic works with inverse battle rules.

Fallshore City Gym is an Inverse Battle area, which means that all Pokémon weaknesses/strengths are reversed.
Typically, Normal-type Pokémon are weak against Fighting-types. However under inverse conditions, Normal-type Pokémon will be hit for 2x damage by Ghost-types instead, and fighting will only do 0.5x damage.
Fallshore City Gym Puzzle

This Gym contains several islands separated by water. You have to hop on rocks and lily pads to reach different areas of the Gym. A handful of Lapras are also positioned next to waterfalls, facilitating movement through them.
Here’s a step-by-step tutorial on how to solve the gym puzzle to reach Mel.
Step 1: Fall through the hole in the ground right in front of the Gym’s entrance.

Step 2: Skipping the first set of lily pads, walk a few steps towards the west leading to the second set of lily pads.

Hop through each of these until you reach the small piece of land with a Trainer guarding the path. This battle cannot be skipped.

Step 3: From the 2 paths here, hop on the lily pads heading towards the east. There is a Lapras at the end here which you can ride to traverse through the first waterfall.

Step 4: Once you reach the other side, follow the lily pads leading to the left, leading onto a small island with a Trainer on it. This Trainer can be skipped if you time your run correctly, but it’s recommended to battle them to make the path easier to follow.

Step 5: From this island, hop on the lily pad to the north with the Lapras in front of it.

Riding this Lapras will lead you to another plot of land with a bridge. And to cross the bridge you’ll have to fight an unskippable Trainer battle.

Step 6: After the fight, head east across the bridge and use the lily pad at the end to reach the island opposite to you (south).

Step 7: Follow this island along and then at the end of this island, use the lily pads to ride the Lapras facing south towards the waterfall.

Step 8: Now follow the lily pads leading towards the eastern side of the room. You’ll find another Lapras here which can be ridden through another waterfall.
This will bring you back to lily pads going left to the island with the blonde trainer on it (Beauty Tamia).

Step 9: Use the lily pads to the left to reach the Beauty Tamia’s island.
Once you’re on this island, follow the lily pads on the western side, and continue on this path until it splits into two.

Step 10: At the split, follow the eastern path until you reach the end of the room.
A final Lapras sits at the end which will take you through one final waterfall.

Step 11: After riding the final Lapras you can go towards the center of this island to reach Mel.

Tips for Defeating Mel

Use Ghost-type Moves: As mentioned, the Fallshore City Gym features inverse battles. Each Pokémon’s strengths and weaknesses are reversed. Since Normal-type Pokemon are typically immune to Ghost-types, they’ll be weak against them here.
However, the reverse is also true – Ghost-type Pokemon will be weak against Normal-types. Since all 3 of Mel’s Pokemon are of a Normal-type, the ideal strategy is to use a Non-Ghost Pokemon that has Ghost-type moves in its moveset. This will help maximize your damage against Mel without compromising on defense.
Focus On Helioptile: This is the first and most aggressive Pokemon Mel uses. Helioptile uses Para Charge and Razor Wind which can cause massive damage. At low health, the Pokemon can use Volt Switch to launch an offensive while retreating at the same time. It’s best to finish it off as soon as you can instead of bringing it down to low HP.
Miltank and Lopunny are relatively less aggressive and are easier to deal with.
Bring Appropriate Supplies: Mel’s Miltank can use Milk Drink to restore its HP. Additionally, Lopunny and Helioptile have the moves Baton Pass and Volt Switch (respectively) which allows them to quickly retreat from battle.
Considering this, you’ll almost certainly need to use a couple of Potions or other HP regenerating moves/items to sustain yourself throughout the battle. You can use the Lapras in front of Mel to quickly visit a nearby PokeMart and purchase a handful of Potions before the fight.
Rewards

Defeating Mel will reward you with the following:
- ₽ 5,440
- TM42 Facade
- Fall Badge – Makes all Pokemon up till level 45 obey your commands. It also allows the use of HM04 Strength outside of battle, allowing you to move special boulders that block your path.
