The Mega Keystone is given to you as part of the game’s main story when you reach Tarmigan Town. It is part of either a Mega Ring, Mega Bracelet, Mega Cuff, or Mega Charm that can contain your mega stones.
This key item is necessary to be able to Mega Evolve.
Location
During the main story, you’re tasked with fighting Successor Maxima in Tarmigan Town if you want to progress to Dehara City.
Defeating the trainer rewards you with the Mega Keystone.
You can choose whether to have a ring, bracelet, cuff, or charm, though your choice doesn’t have any gameplay effect.
Function
You can use your Mega Keystone to mega evolve various Pokemon.
To do so, you’d first need to acquire a Pokémon’s Mega Stone.
For example, Successor Maxima gives you the Altarianite for defeating her, letting you Mega Evolve Altaria.
After acquiring a Pokémon’s Mega Stone, make that Pokemon hold it.
Then go into battle and you’ll get the option to Mega Evolve that Pokemon using the start button when it’s on the field after pressing the “fight” button. Press start and select your move to Mega Evolve that Pokemon.
