A Rancher in Gurun Town wants you to bring him 20 Hard Stones. He’ll give you TM111 Smack Down in exchange.
Starting the Mission
Fly to Gurun Town and head to the house just north of the Pokémon Center, on the northwest corner of the Regi statue plaza.
The Rancher in the living room wants you to collect 20 Hard Stones and bring them to him.
How to Complete
There are two main repeatable sources of Hard Stones.
Digging is the first and probably the most reliable of these methods.
Before you beat the Pokémon League, the only place to do this is in the Crater Town section of the KBT Expressway.
Walk north into the tunnel and you’ll eventually see a Worker who will charge you P1000 to use his tools.
The key is to break as much of the rock using the hammer and pick tools before the wall collapses. The crack in the top of the interface will grow with every hit, so be careful.
If you’re lucky, you can uncover Hard Stones, Heart Scales, Everstones, Revives, any of the evolution Stones, and a few more assorted goodies.
Hard Stones are one of the more common items you can get, and they look like grey octagonal gemstones.
Alternative Sources
The other place where you can get Hard Stones is the Great Desert.
Breaking rocks with Rock Smash here will sometimes get you items and Fossils.
Hard Stones are one of the more common drops from the smashed rocks.
When you return to the Rancher with the 20 Hard Stones, he’ll give you TM111 Smack Down.
