You’ve just earned the power of Mega Evolution by completing Tarmigan Mansion, and you’ve headed north out of Tarmigan Town on to Route 12. At the other end of Route 12 is Dehara City.

Take a few steps north on the route, though, and you’ll run into a familiar face.
Rival Battle

Your Rival shows up, fresh after beating the Mansion himself and keen to show off how much he’s grown as a trainer since last you saw him.

He still can’t believe it when we beat him yet again, but doesn’t have much time to process it before Professor Log arrives.

Your Rival is not that happy to see him, and is keen to leave to keep searching for his parents.
Luckily for both him and you, Professor Log has something that will make that easier.
Getting HM03 Surf

It’s HM03 Surf!
However, you’ll have to beat the Dehara City Gym to use it.
Professor Log tells you to head to Dehara City to find Jax, and then after you earn the Gym Badge you can travel with Surf together to the Ruins of Void.
After your Rival and the Professor leave, you’re free to continue on through the route.

Getting Through Route 12
Walk west down a couple of sets of stairs, passing Collector Steve on the way.
You’ll see a cutscene of Marlon on a beach, still unsure of what to do after you beat him at Thundercap Mountain. Before he can decide, a strange Grunt appears behind him and teleports Marlon away.

Once the cutscene is over, continue until you see Worker Braxton to the northwest.
Challenge him, and after you beat him and head north you’ll see another cutscene.

Hoopa, the portal Pokémon, has brought the strange Grunt a Pokémon in a bag, but the Grunt doesn’t want it.
He wants Zapdos, so Hoopa summons it and the Grunt captures it.
Looks like the Shadow have all the Legendary Pokémon they need after all.

Walk northwest and you’ll see an entrance to the beach you’ve been seeing in the cutscenes.
Go west onto the sand and you will quickly spot the bag that Hoopa left.

Make sure you have an empty slot in your team, and then examine the bag.
There’s a Cosmog inside!
Once you’ve got this super rare Pokémon, it’s time to continue on to Dehara City.

Go back the way you came and go past Psychic Johan until you see a set of stairs leading east up the cliff face.

Keep going up the cliff, fighting Kindler Fry on the way.
Once you’ve beaten him, walk north along the ledge.

You’ve made it to Dehara City, which is a big place full of things to do and explore.
Head inside the gate to progress.

Keep going along the road from the gate until you see the Pokémon Center – this marks the beginning of Dehara City proper.
Dehara City is massive, so it’s best to start in one area and then move clockwise around town, to make sure you don’t miss anything.

The first area you should visit is the road leading east.
There are two big buildings here – go in the first one, which is the Pokémon Center.

Inside is a girl who will give you 5 Luxury Balls, and will offer to change the Ball of any Pokémon in your team to a Luxury Ball.
The next building along is the massive Dehara Department Store – head on inside.

Dehara Department Store

One thing to be aware of here is that it’s not all about shopping – there are trainers on 3F and above that will want to challenge you if they see you, so bear that in mind.
The Department Store has:
- A regular Poke Mart on 2F
- An Evolution Stone shop on 3F
- A TM shop on 4F
- A Stat Items shop on 5F
- And a Mail shop on 6F
As for the trainers:

And On 2F, there’s a maid who offers to purchase anything in your inventory that resembles an ingredient or food item – usually organic healing items.

On 6F there is a very strange woman who acts like a vending machine.

Weird vibes aside, it’s best to purchase a Soda Pop from her because you’ll need it in a moment.
After you’re finished shopping, leave the building and head west.
Back to Dehara City

Unfortunately, there’s no way for you to get the badge from the Gym at the moment, because there is no way across the water to reach the island it sits on.
Remember its location for later.
Keep following the road west and then turn north, ignoring any forks you may come across.

You will quickly find this city’s entrance to the Expressway, and there’s a few new Gem Shops open.
Tip: The path to Dresco Town and the rest of the tunnel network is also open if you want to backtrack that way.

Just east of the Expressway entrance is a large park.

Like Epidimy Town, if you sit on one of the benches here, you’ll get a random healing item.
After that, keep going north and you’ll come to a large beach.

There’s a Battle Girl here who is very thirsty – if you give her the Soda Pop we bought in the Department Store, she’ll give you an Expert Belt.
From there you can head back to the park, and take the south exit. You’ll come to a street and a row of houses – head east until you see a house with a sign next to it.

You’ve arrived at Double Battle House, which is very similar to the one in Dresco Town.
Head inside for a bit of training.
Double Battle House

This place works exactly the same as Dresco’s version – the trainers in here are able to be fought over and over again, so if you ever feel like you’re underleveled, make sure you put in some time here.

The house next to the Double Battle House is a bit of an easter egg from the developers of this game – everyone who had a hand in contributing has their own avatar and witty line to say, just like the Game Freak rooms in the official Pokémon games.
Other Notable Areas

Just northeast of those two houses is a cave entrance. This is Rift Cave, and it’s best to leave the exploration of this place for later.
For now, head south until you see a block of four houses.

There are things to do and collect in every single one of these houses, so it is best to start with the northwest house and continue clockwise.
Top-Left House
The family on the lower floor of the northwest house is concerned with the happiness of Pokémon.

The girl will tell you how happy your lead Pokémon is, and the boy will offer to play with one of them to raise happiness.

The man upstairs in the hallway wants to see a Pokémon like a balloon, which could be any of Jigglypuff’s evolutionary line or Drifloon and Drifblim.
He’ll reward you with an Air Balloon, which will save the holder from a Ground-type move once before bursting.

The fisherman inside the unit here on the second floor gives you a mission to throw any Pyukumuku you might find on the beach back in the ocean, because they’re a hazard to beachgoers.
You just go to the northern beach and remove all the Pyukumuku you can find until it tells you to return.

No need to battle them, you’ll just need to examine them and they’ll leave.

For cleaning up the beach, you’ll be given a Power Band.
With that house complete, move to the northeast one.
Top-Right House

Talking to the Monferno here will get you a free Passho Berry, but it’s her owner that is more important.

Just like the trainer from Unova in Route 5, this trainer is from Sinnoh and will offer you one of the three Sinnoh starter Pokemon – Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup.
You can come back for the other two when you have 6 and 8 badges respectively.
Sinnoh Starters | |
---|---|
Turtwig Grass Lv.30 |
![]() |

![]() |

Go up to the second floor and you’ll find a woman who will give you 2 Yellow Shards.
The old lady who lives with her can teach Thunder Punch if you give those shards to her – if not, you can keep them for later.
Bottom-Right House

A Hiker lives in the southeast house, and he says that the Great Desert to the east of Dehara is dangerous if you don’t have the right equipment.
He offers to lend you his pair of Go-Goggles, but won’t do so until you beat the Dehara Gym. Remember his location for later.
Time for the southwest house now.
Bottom-Left House

There’s a gentleman inside that will buy any ore items that you have, similar to the Maid and food items.
But more importantly, the man in the hallway next to him will purchase Rare Bones for twice the price Poke Marts will offer – P10000 each.

Head upstairs, and if you’ve been adventurous enough, you will have seen (not caught) at least 250 Pokémon by now. If that’s the case, the old man up here will give you a Binding Band.
Cloud Game Corner

The Cloud Game Corner is one more destination to check out in Dehara City, and it’s just above the Department Store.
Speak to the man outside and he’ll give you a Coin Case, which is essential if you want to play any minigames.

As soon as you enter, you’ll see Jax at one of the machines.
For now, speak to the other patrons in here and they’ll give you various amounts of Coins to start you off with.

The man in the northwest corner gives you a mission to earn 3000 Coins in a single day by playing the game Cloud Burst.
How Games Work

Cloud Burst is a minigame where you control an Altaria, flying around popping balloons. It will take quite a few runs for you to rack up 3000 points, but it is doable.
Your reward is something special – a Balloon Pikachu with Levitate and the moves Fly, Agility, Slam, and Discharge. Could come in handy perhaps?

If you’re willing to spend more time earning Coins, there are a number of other rare Pokémon that can only be purchased in the Game Corner Shop.

Continuing The Story
After you’re done in the Game Corner, speak to Jax to get things moving again.
Before you do, make sure you have everything in order – you won’t be returning to town for quite a while.
