Now that you have Surf, head to Route 4 West and surf south into Route 13.

Routes 13 and 14 are ocean routes, and would have been the only way to get to the Ruins of Void before Hoopa intervened.
Not only are there important items to pick up on these two routes, but there is a challenge here – the Ocean Master Challenge – that is a great way to train your Pokémon before setting out in the Great Desert.
To complete the challenge, all trainers in Route 13 and 14 have to be defeated.
Clearing All Trainers
As soon as you enter the route, you’ll see Swimmer Luis.

From him, surf southeast until you see an island with a lone fisherman – this is Fisherman Wade, the second trainer to beat.

Southeast of Wade is a small island with two trainers, a Swimmer and a Fisherman, waiting for a challenge.
East of here is Dehara City, so if you need to go back to town to heal Pokémon, you have a quick shortcut. There are no Nurses or Chanseys on Route 13 or 14 so it’s best to keep this in mind.
After they’ve been dealt with, go back to Wade’s island and go west until you hit sand.

This is a big teardrop-shaped sand island, and it’s got a lot of trainers on it.
The first one is Ninja Boy Nate, but he’s hidden – you have to interact with the mound of sand to get him to challenge you.
South of him are four more trainers to battle, and they’re no pushovers. You may want to go back to Dehara to heal after you take them on.

Once that’s done, surf southeast.

There are two swimmers here circling around – defeat them, and then head back to the teardrop island.
From there, go southwest.

Two more swimmers will be waiting to ambush you as you continue south – make sure you defeat both of them, because it’s easy to miss one.
Swimmer Melissa is south of them, near a Trainer Tips sign.

Keep going south and you’ll ruin into one final trainer on this route.
When Swimmer Anya is defeated, you’ll see a sign marking the cross point between Routes 13 and 14.

Northeast of here is the Ocean Master, so remember that for later.
Continue south onto Route 14.

The first part of Route 14 is an S-shaped sand island.

Clearing All Trainers
On the northwest part of it you’ll see Raul on land and David in the water – defeat them both to proceed.

After that, head east to challenge Swimmer Douglas.
Then on the middle bend of the ‘S’ shape is Picnicker Heidi.

And from Heidi you can follow the curve of the island south to another trainer.

Surf south of Expert Litzy and you’ll see a swimmer and a small M-shaped island.

Just east of here is the Route 12 beach where you picked up Cosmog. There are two trainers here, and once they’re defeated, you can move on.
From there, surf west until you see a big rock island.

This next section of Route 14 is two rocky islands connected by a bridge.
Surf going west along the southern edge of the easternmost island until you come to a channel in the middle.

Head up that channel and under the bridge until you come to the sea north of the islands.

North of here is the Ruins of Void.
There’s also a sign here that explains that dark patches of water require the Advanced Digging and Diving Machine to explore.
Defeat Swimmer Tony here, and then return to the south side of the islands.

Follow the edge of the islands west until you run into Swimmer Raxle.
Eventually, you’ll come to a spot where you can land on the west island.

Head up the stairs and into the long grass.
Follow the path east until you reach Aroma Lady Violet.

Past her, there’s a small staircase leading to a lake on the very top of the island. Picnicker Carol is here, half-hidden by the long grass.
Once you’re done with the island, go back to the water and surf west.

On the way west you will encounter Barry and Connie, though where you manage to find them might change – they both have long swim loops.
Once you’ve defeated them, continue west until you find land.

Walk west up the steps and you’ll find yourself on a massive land bridge, the final section of Route 14.

Worker Lewis is to the north, and Collector Diddy is to the south.

With those two trainers defeated, the Ocean Challenge is complete.
Now you can go back to the southeast part of Route 13 to find the Ocean Master.

Moving Forward
Route 6 is just across the water west of the land bridge in Route 14.

The next thing you need to do is go to the Auburn Waterway, and you can get there from the southern gate of Route 6.
