Now that you have Surf, it’s time to explore the Auburn Waterway from the north side.

Jump into the water and head southeast.

You will most likely run into Swimmer Harold on the way past – this area has a few trainers in it so keep your eyes peeled if you need the training.
Continue to the southeast until you see a large landmass with some trees – then turn south.

Keep going south until you come to a small island with a lone fisherman and a patch of long grass.
The Rain Dance TM

From the island, turn west. You may run into Swimmer Nicole on the way.

As you go west, you may notice a clown lurking in the trees. This is your destination, but you’ll have to take a roundabout way to get there.

Follow the edge of the treeline west until you see a gap in the trees big enough for you to land in.
Don’t jump off the cliff to the west – it leads into the area where you found all those Granbull Goons earlier. Instead, head east through the long grass.

You will eventually reach the clown, who is so surprised you found him he gives you TM18 Rain Dance.
Make your way back to the lone fisherman’s island and head northeast until you find a slightly bigger island with a Hiker on it.
Helping the Hiker

When you speak to him, he is in a bit of a jam – his Pokémon dug a tunnel up here to the island, but apparently it learned a new move when it leveled up and forgot how to use Dig.
He needs you to get a Pokémon who knows Dig to help him find the tunnel again and the way out.
If you don’t have one already, it’s recommended to go to Cinder Volcano Depths – where you fought the Light of Ruin and Groudon – and catch an Excadrill. It should know Dig by default.
Then, you can come back here and accept the Hiker’s mission.
However, to prove you’re up to it, he challenges you to a battle first.

Once you’ve beaten him, your Pokémon will automatically use Dig and you’ll find yourself in a dark tunnel.

When you first arrive here, you won’t be able to see more than a tile around you in all directions. Having a Pokémon with Flash will not help.

There’s no way back up – the only way is forward out of the tunnel’s only other exit.
Luckily, you landed in a spot with a healing Chansey, so at least you can make sure your team is healthy.

From where you landed, proceed south until you see a T-junction. Ignore it and continue on south.
The path will then turn to the west.

You will eventually hit another T-junction.
Follow the north path this time.

You’ll come to yet another T-junction, where you’ll need to take the west path.
When it leads to a four-way intersection, there’s a sudden earthquake, and you’re attacked by a Diglett! It scales to your level, so it might be a tough fight no matter what – unless you know a Water move or two, of course.

After the fight, take the south path from that intersection – it will hook around to the west, and eventually you’ll be attacked again.
This time, it’s a Golem.

After you’ve taken care of the Golem, you’ll notice you’re at another T-junction.
Head north here, and the path will take a turn west.

From there, walk north, and there’s another choice to make.

Take the east path, and when you come to another intersection, ignore it and keep heading east. There will be a slight turn up before you’ll come to the final T-junction.

Head east from there, and it won’t be long before you’re ambushed by another Pokémon – this time a Dugtrio.

After three battles, it seems like the Lost Tunnel is done with us.
Keep going east, ignoring a blocked-off passage, and you’ll eventually find what you’ve been looking for all this time.

That’s right, it’s a ladder, and it’ll lead you and the Hiker out of this dim place.
Getting TM28 Dig

The Hiker is grateful enough to give you a gift – TM28 Dig. If he had the TM all along, why ask for your help in the first place?
Anyway, head north out of this tunnel and you’ll find yourself in a familiar place.
Leaving the Lost Tunnel

You’ll be in a section of the KBT Expressway, close to Fallshore City and Epidimy Town.
This is handy, because your next destination is Epidimy Town and Thundercap Mountain.
