Pokémon League

The lobby of the Pokemon League

You’ve finally made it to the Borrius Pokémon League!

After defeating the Shadow and the Light of Ruin, beating eight Gyms across Borrius and making a name for yourself, you’re finally here to challenge for the vacant Championship.

To succeed, you must beat all five trainers without returning to the lobby. Make sure you’re stocked up on Revives and Full Restores.

Tip: If you’re up for a challenge, take the Youngster up on his mission and try and become Champion with just one Pokémon in your team. This almost-impossible feat will be rewarded with an Ultranecrozium-Z.

Speak to the man guarding the door to get started.

The Elite Four can be defeated in any order, but for simplicity’s sake it’s probably best to go left to right.

Once you’ve beaten all of them, the way to the Champion will open.

Even on the easiest difficulty, the trainers in the Pokémon League are all scaled to match the level of your team, so there’s no point in grinding – you’ve got to have strong moves and strong type matchups to succeed.

Moleman’s entrance / Pokémon Unbound
Moleman’s entrance

The first door on the left leads to Moleman, the Ground trainer.

Elite Four – Moleman (Ground)

The Mole-Man is ready to destroy you

Moleman has a team of all Ground-types. Ground-type moves are super-effective against Electric-, Fire-, Poison-, Rock-, and Steel-type Pokémon.

They’re weak to Grass-, Ice-, and Water-type moves.

This is the first Double Battle in the Pokémon League, so make sure you have two Pokémon that can withstand Moleman’s attacks.

Alolan Ninetales with that Icium-Z may come in handy, though not for Excadrill. Be flexible with type matchups and make sure you’re not caught out by strong moves like Earthquake.

With Moleman defeated, head back to the hallway.

Go to the next door, just left of the statues in the middle, to challenge Elias.

Elite Four – Elias (Ghost)

Elias is a zombie trainer / Pokémon Unbound
Elias is a zombie trainer

Apparently the trainer shortage in the Pokémon League is so bad they revived a dead member and turned him into a zombie. This is Elias, the Ghost-type trainer.

Ghost-type moves are super-effective against Ghost- and Psychic-type Pokémon, and Ghost-type Pokémon are weak against Ghost- and Dark-type moves.

It’s a singles battle, so it may be slightly easier than Moleman. Ghost-types tend to have multiple tricky moves up their sleeve, though, and Elias’ team is no exception.

With Elias out of the way, there are just two Elite Four between you and the Championship.

Head outside and to the door to the right – time to face Arabella.

Elite Four – Arabella (Fairy)

Arabella is a Fairy-type Pokémon Princess / Pokémon Unbound
Arabella is a Fairy-type Pokémon Princess

Arabella may be young but she’s no pushover. She has a team of Fairy-types, and they’re stronger than they may look.

Fairy-type moves are super-effective against Dark-, Dragon-, and Fighting-type Pokémon. However, Fairy-type Pokémon are weak against Poison- and Steel-type moves.

The Mega Mawile may pose a problem if you’re using Steel-type moves against Arabella’s team, though that’s nothing a strong Fire-type move won’t fix.

When you defeat Arabella, you’ll be three-quarters done with the Elite Four and free to move on to the final door.

Go to the final door on the right and get ready to face Penny.

Elite Four – Penny (Dragon)

Penny loves Dragon-type Pokémon, and has a team full of them.

Dragon-types are weak against Dragon-, Fairy-, and Ice-type moves. However, Dragon-type moves are super-effective against Dragon-type Pokémon.

Compared to the other three trainers in the Elite Four, you may have an easier time of it.

Jax has already beaten the Elite Four and is ready to challenge you for the open Championship title.

The credits roll – for the first time.

Pokémon Unbound is not over yet – it has an endgame much larger than a lot of other Pokémon ROMhacks out there, and as soon as the credits finish you’re taken straight to it.

Professor Log is pleased as punch that he finally got one over his rival Arthur, but he doesn’t have much time to celebrate.

Apparently Hoopa going mad at Crystal Peak has had some side-effects, and there are 25 strange Pokémon you need to defeat across Borrius to close their portals.

Then go inside your house, and you’ll find a letter that’s got to be the biggest post-game hook there is.

It seems like Aklove is not done with you yet.
