Valley Cave in Crater Town is the only way to get to Blizzard City, and Blizzard City is the only place you’ll be able to find HM06 Rock Smash.
So after entering the cave, head west through an empty level of the cavern and go down a ladder.

The route you have to take through the cave is fairly linear, and there are a couple of trainers to defeat in here.
Walking west and then south, you’ll run into Gambler Hugo.

After beating him, continue south to be challenged by Black Belt Mitoshi.
After that, you’ll see a path that runs underneath a bridge.

Walk under it, and you’ll come to a small fork in the path.

South leads to an item, and north leads to the elevated platform that you need to be on to proceed through the cavern.

When you reach the northern platform and the west side of the bridge, you’ll see a small rock up against the western wall.
When you interact with it, it will reveal itself to be a button – but nothing will happen.
For now, go ahead and challenge Pokémon Ranger Nicolas and walk past him over the bridge.

Once you’re over that bridge, there’s another, skinnier bridge leading south that you need to cross. Keep going south.

You’ll see Gentleman Thomas and a monolith like the one you found in Icicle Cave. However, you can’t get to it just yet without Rock Climb.
The Gentleman tells you about the inscription, which gives you a clue about what to do with the button rock – make sure the first Pokémon in your party is Bug-type, then hit the button.
But it won’t make any difference if you don’t have Rock Climb. So that’s something you’ll have to try later.
Walk west, and you’ll see a ladder.

Climb it, and eventually you’ll get to Route 6.

When you emerge from Valley Cave, the first thing you will see is a Chansey, ready at the entrance to heal your Pokémon.

There are a lot of trainers on this route so it’s important to backtrack to this Chansey as many times as you need.

Taking the left path through the trees will lead you straight to a meeting of goons who belong to the Terror Granbulls. They’re blocking a Zygarde Cell, which you won’t be able to get until after you beat the Blizzard City Gym.
For now, go back to the intersection and head south. It will lead you over a bridge.

After beating Camper Ricky, you have two choices of paths, each leading to its own bridge.
The east bridge just leads to a bunch of optional items and trainers, and the west bridge is what you’ll take to progress further into the route.

As you cross the west bridge, you’ll notice a small gully with some trainers in it.

Painter Picaso waits to challenge you with his lone Smeargle, and after you’ve defeated them, continue on to the south.

Youngster Josh is the last trainer on the route, and once you challenge him you’re free to proceed to the south.

You don’t need to go to Auburn Waterway just yet, so take the west path.

When you take that west path, you’ll see a cutscene where Ivory is talking about preventing access to Thundercap Mountain through nefarious means.
After that, head west on to Route 7.

As soon as you enter the route you’ll see two trainers to the southwest.

They’re Youngster Tyler and Lass Wanda, and you can fight them separately or together as a Double Battle, depending on where you stand.

The same goes for Picnicker Diana and Camper Dylan – if you head straight through the middle of them you’ll trigger a Double Battle, but challenging them individually will get them solo.

After defeating them in the manner that you choose, you’ll see a gate to another route to the south.
It’s being blocked by Shadow Grunts though, so you’ll have to go the other way.

Hiker Marcos will challenge you once you start climbing the hill, and after that is Juggler Kayden.

Crossing the bridge to the north of here will get you to a small island and another bridge.

Walk across the other bridge and it’ll be hard to avoid Black Belt Koichi. Once he’s been taken care of, you’ll reach the mainland again.

The way forward to Frost Mountain and Blizzard City is to the north of here, but it’s important to take the east path first.

Bird Keeper Keith will challenge you, but after that, you’ll see a small house down to the south. This is where the Fisherman and his wife live.

After going through two routes full of trainers, a good healing is probably what your Pokémon party needs the most – and the Fisherman’s wife offers it to you.

Speaking to the Fisherman inside this house will get you the Old Rod, which is the first chance you’ll have to start fishing up Pokémon. It will also let you get any upgrades.

After you’ve healed up and got the Old Rod, go back to the entrance of Frost Mountain and head inside.
Route 8 and Blizzard City are just ahead.
